💡 Why this resume works

How to write a receptionist resume that makes the right first impression

The receptionist is the first person a client, vendor or job candidate sees. The person hiring for this role is not looking for someone to "greet visitors". They want someone who represents the company's image while controlling access, phones and calendars without letting anything slip. Your resume is the first impression of the first impression you will make.

Mistakes that get a receptionist resume rejected

Keywords ATS filters look for in receptionist resumes

Use them only where they are true for you: the filter searches for them, but the recruiter verifies them in the interview.

If you have never worked a front desk

Any public-facing role is a stepping stone to reception: cashier, host, customer service, retail associate, helping at a family business. Rewrite it in front-desk vocabulary: "in-person and phone customer service", "appointment scheduling", "visitor check-in". If you write well, prove it in the resume itself. If you speak Spanish or another language, list it with your level — in hotels, medical offices and companies with diverse clients, it often decides between two similar candidates.

Frequently asked questions

Should I include a photo?

No. In the United States resumes do not carry photos, and including one can get your application set aside.

Should I list social media skills?

Only if the posting mentions it or the company is small. Corporate reception does not value it; a small business might.

How do I show I handle pressure?

With volume: calls per day, visitors, rooms managed at once. "Works well under pressure" as a phrase convinces no one; the number does.

Do I need a college degree?

Usually not. A high school diploma or GED plus customer service or office courses is standard. List any college coursework in progress.

Should I mention a receptionist job at a very small office?

Yes. A three-person office where you did everything shows versatility. Describe the actual functions, not the size.
