💡 Why this resume works

How to write an operations manager resume that proves metric control

An operations manager is hired to make the operation predictable: it produces what was committed, at the expected cost, without surprises. Leadership reading your resume looks for three figures first: the size of the operation you ran, which metrics you moved, and how many people you led. An operations resume without numbers is a supervisor's resume with an inflated title.

Keywords operations ATS filters look for

Use them only where they are true for you: the filter searches for them, but the recruiter verifies them in the interview.

If you are a supervisor moving into your first manager role

The step up is proven by scope, not title. If you coordinated multiple areas, managed partial budget, developed supervisors or led a cross-functional improvement project, write it in that language. Document your area's metrics even at limited scope: a supervisor who improved line productivity demonstrates the same competency expected of a manager, at smaller scale. Add training in management, cost accounting or continuous improvement. And prepare for the central interview question: how you got people to change how they work.

Frequently asked questions

How do I move from supervisor to operations manager on my resume?

Document scope: areas coordinated, budget handled, supervisors developed, cross-functional projects led. Plus your area's metrics, even at limited scope.

Which metrics should I include?

The ones you managed: productivity, unit cost, on-time delivery, quality, turnover, safety. With before and after, not just the final value.

Should I list methodologies I know?

Yes, but always tied to a result: "implemented 5S on the production floor, cutting tool search time". The acronym alone carries no weight.

How do I size the operation?

Headcount, budget, volume and sites. If any is confidential, use ranges: "200+ employee operation across three shifts".

How long should it be?

One to two pages. Page one: summary with operation size, plus the two most recent roles with metrics.
